Since February 2021 & based on the success of the 1st IO.Energy Ecosystem, we launched a 2nd edition of the ecosystem to drive the power system towards consumer centricity.
The way we consume and produce energy is changing. In this energy transition consumers are evolving into prosumers producing their own energy. They possess an energy flexibility that becomes very valuable. It can adapt to the growing variability of a world powered by renewables. To make this work, we need new digital tools, new rules and automation. All of this needs to be combined with real-time communication capabilities connecting all electrical devices and the various players in the system.
A consumer-centric system would benefit society as a whole. Value would be created for all players: consumers, system operators, market parties.
Together, we have set the ground for several innovative business models which aim at unlocking the value potential of E-mobility, storage, heating, smart building, smart home, energy community, renewable energy.
As an ecosystem, we have the ambition to co-create and deliver the new energy services consumers seek for.
Below, you will discover the new use-cases creating through the IO.E 2.0.
EV EXPERIENCE
In IOEnergy 2.0, EV experience has improved the EV driving experience by introducing a solution that enables users to charge their electric vehicles at private and public charging points in the most cost-effective way. This solution encompasses a user-friendly and streamlined application, EV Smart Connector with IO.E as a secure data and communication layer. Additionally, it incorporates a back-end engine known as the “Universal Energy Transaction Network Engine,” leveraging distributed ledger technology.
Building upon the success of IOE 2.0, IO.E 3.0 is now poised to advance this solution further by focusing on preparing for market entry with a minimum viable product (MVP).

THE SOCIAL ENERGY BANK
In order to enhance the accessibility of the energy transition for a wider audience, this use-case explores the potential of creating a platform that effectively captures and utilizes surplus energy from industries to bolster social initiatives. The goal is to establish a system that efficiently buffers excess energy and channels it towards supporting impactful projects in society.

FLEX ON LOW AND MID VOLTAGE
Through this use-case, Fluvius wants to gain hands-on experience with Flex on low and mid-voltage by using field experience and learning from participating companies. To do so, companies are invited to share their assets for demand-response initiatives managed by The Distribution System Operator (DSO) at the distribution level. The focus will be on addressing congestion challenges within the low to medium voltage grid. Following this, tests will be initiated to identify any potential issues before establishing the final protocols.
